Volunteer
Davis Community Meals and Housing is a non-profit, non-denominational organization whose mission is to provide low-income and homeless individuals and families with housing, food, and human services to help them rebuild their lives. The organization provides free meals, a Resource Center, Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing Programs, a Supportive Housing Program, Street Outreach and an employment program, Pathways to Employment. Volunteers are needed to supportĀ these programs.
Meals Program
At our meals programs, volunteer groups and individual volunteers are needed for our Tuesday evening meal and for our Saturday lunch. Volunteers help prepare the meals, set up the dining hall, serve the meals and clean up the kitchen and hall at the conclusion of the meal. Volunteers are needed from 9 am to 11:30 am and from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesdays and from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.
Resource Center
Our Resource Center needs volunteers during the weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm. Volunteers assist in helping individuals and families get clothing and food, distribute supplies, do intakes, make referrals and provide assistance to staff. Volunteers must be trained for these positions and are required to agree to a long term volunteer commitment after training.
Shelter and Transitional Housing
Our Shelter and Transitional Housing program at 1111 H Street needs volunteers to work overnight and also during the evening hours from 6 pm to 11 pm each evening and on Saturday and Sunday Mornings. The volunteers assist with doing client intakes, ensuring that residents are safe, that all shelter rules are followed, providing life skills and socializing with our residents. Volunteers must be trained for these positions and are required to agree to a long term volunteer commitment after training.
